AOSP V4 laek.17 KitKat REPACK (v3 kernel)

DESCRIPTION

This is a modded repack of laek.17 v4 KitKat AOSP from http://www.needrom.com/download/aosp-4-4-v2-multilanguage-laek-17/

Some small (but important) additions/changes

-> The kernel has been downgraded to v3 version's kernel. This radically improves battery performance.

-> The rom now includes a bootlogo (laek's default one). The original v4 rom by laek didn't have a boot logo, therefore people upgrading from JellyBean would be stuck with a (jelybean) logo incompatible with kitkat (therefore a weird excalamation mark appears immediately before the boot animation). The explicit addition of a kitkat compatible boot logo inside this new repack fixes this problem.

Before installing a whole rom (such as this one) you MUST do all wipes at least two times since some buggy recoveries do not delete stuff correctly!!!

If you have already installed the default laek v4 rom from http://www.needrom.com/download/aosp-4-4-v2-multilanguage-laek-17/:

I include bootimg_v3_laek.zip and bootimg_v4_laek.zip for people that just want the kernel.

-> Eg, if you have laek v4 and only want to flash the kernel from v3 (for better battery life) just install bootimg_v3_laek.zip from TWRP or CWM recovery. AFTER FLASHING A KERNEL ONLY WIPE CACHE AND DALVIK-CACHE. DON'T WIPE ANYTHING ELSE BECAUSE YOU WILL DELETE YOUR PREINSTALLED ROM.

-> In case you want to revert back to v4 kernel simply flash bootimg_v4_laek.zip and wipe cache and dalvik-cache immediately afterwards.

This repack is done by me and not by laek. Only purpose was kernel and boot logo fix. No fix for the “reboot to recovery”. This bug is probably due to wrong reboot binary. I haven’t been able (no time as well :( ) to solve it.

    Thank you!

I'm interested only in kernel downgrade. I was on v3 for a short period of time so I'm wondering how much battery juice we'll get with v3 kernel?

Try it yourself it is totally harmless! Simply flash bootimg_laek_v3 if you are on laek v4 and do cache and dalvik cache wipes afterwards. I haven’t had less than 5h30min with screen on auto and heavy usage. I ve managed to get 7h15min once!

@brixy: CPU power saving is on by default. You can disable it if you want. You can even install Nofrills Cpu Control for more power.

@razorinc: The brightness is on auto mode. If you want even less disable auto mode and install Screen Filter from play store.

With Screen Filter you ‘ll be able to lower your brightness to dangerously low levels if you want, eg during reading at night.

I know for this apps, but in some cases they don t act well… I thought that you lower the stock auto brightness values, I think that they a bit high, especially at night…

btw thanks for this rom and your work, it s pretty good, for me one of the best…

Well, the original rom author is laek.17 and not me – so thank or donate sth to him :-) .

I only changed the kernel and inserted a boot logo since these were extremely important changes. With these changes i think this is one of the best roms now.
