DESCRIPTION

Here is a guide (in English) to enable 5Ghz WiFi on our Lenovo K3 Note.

Before proceeding, download all the files provided with this guide.

  • Install SP Meta Tools which can be found in SP_META_exe_v1.1544.00.
  • Make a backup of your existing NVRAM partition.
  • The APDB file that I have provided here was extracted from a stock S427 ROM.
  • These instructions were translated and recompiled from Denis_PDA's post on 4pda
  • Lastly, follow these instructions at your own risk. If your device explodes, melts, catches fire, etc, you're on your own.

1. Disconnect the K3 Note from the PC and reboot to meta mode by holding Vol Down + Power during boot.

2. The screen should display “Have been in meta mode…”. Once you see this, connect the phone to the PC.

3. Launch device manager and you should have 2 devices with yellow bangs. CDC Serial and MT65xx Android Phone.

4. Double click on CDC Serial and install the drivers manually as below.

5. The driver for CDC serial can be found in the package “SP_Drivers_v1.6.7z”.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for MT65xx.

7. Both devices should now be installed and have no yellow bangs. Please take note of the COM#. In my case, it is 26. Yours will most likely be something else.

8. Launch SP Meta Tool and change the settings as per below.

9. After clicking on reconnect, a new window will appear; 'AP Editor'. Click on “read from NVRAM”, select the APDB file and click open.

10. A tree will appear in the left side of the window. Expand “AP_CFG_RDEB_FILE_WIFI_LID”, select  '1' and click on “read from NVRAM”.

11. The right side of the window will now be populated. Change the values of ucSupport5GBand and ucEnable5GBand to 0×01. Click on “save to NVRAM”.

12. Reboot the phone to TWRP and delete the folder /data/nvram.

13. Reboot to OS and observe that your device can now detect and connect to 5Ghz wlan networks.

※Please make a backup of your device before installing or updating ROM

I'm running W10 x64 Pro, in the past all I did was installing the lenovo usb drivers, believe version 1.14 in that time. only thing I did was running the driver exe file as administrator and drivers (VCOM) where installed.

Try to leave phone off with battery out, usb cable connected, start SP meta, push disconnect and connect again, flip battery in and phone gets in meta mode, 10 seconds later SP meta shows connected, select AP NVram editor etc.

This is the way I did it many times with SP flash tool, Maui Meta 3G and SP meta tool. But probably not the only way to do it.

When you delete your data/nvram folder you get a new one after reboot with the info that is stored in your nvram partition and 5GHZ gets enabled after you do this instruction. Many of us have/ had phones with nvram error's from supplier because of invalid wifi/bt addresses or missing Imei's after flashing new roms. If you don't have a proper NVram partition in your phone or a backup it can give you some problem and the need of restoring wifi/bt adresses, serial/PN number on Indian ROW, etc when you delete your NVram folder.

I follow the instruction til the end and I confirm it's working on my K50-T3s model.  The only problem I have is to install the CDC driver under Win7x64.  I went to this site and donwload the Lenovo USB driver v1.1.16.  After installing the driver, I was able to continue from step 8 to the end.

Very happy to have 5G enable.  Thank you!

finally in WIN10 x64 i had to choose different com port from preloader port(comX) . it was named ''USB port''.

    so all works fine.

    thank you

i get the nvram error which i didnt manage to fix. tried both removing nvram folder as stated, also replacing it with the nvram fix.

if someone pays attention however through the nvram editor there are options to increase the dbm output of the network adapter.

Try using SP flash tool to flash an official ROM. That should also fix the NVRAM partition to a stock/default state.

Then use this guide to enable 5Ghz afterwards.

Do let me know if this works.

@alexkit14, stock Indian Row rom's or stock VibeUi rom's doesn't include a nvram.img, it makes one if totally missing after a flash format but is not valid, so if your nvram partition is invalid/empty due formatting flash or bad Chinese supplier of your phone it will stay like that!! and you will keep nvram error's due 00:00:00:00:00:00 wifi mac address in your Nvram partition but depends on the rom you flash, the reason why Mac address changes each time after reboot or disconnenct connect phone!!

When you remove your data/nvram folder, that is not the nvram partition!! Your Imei's, Mac etc will be lost in case of invalid nvram partition and many of us have phones from Chinese suppliers with that problem!! Be aware of that.

Tried the above procedures.  Everything seemed to be as outlined.  But still can't detect my wifi-ac router.

    My ROM is SLICK-S427-ROW.

    Any idea?

    Thx.

Try it again and then check to see if the changes were applied. Meaning, both of the 5G settings are already set to 0×01 when you load it up in AP editor.

If that is ok, try detecting other 5Ghz networks.

How do you do reading from the phone NVRAM?  If I click READ FROM NVRAM, it will prompt me to Open File… and ask for .12 file again.

Oh, I finally got it to work.  After rewriting NVRAM, I skipped "Step12. Reboot the phone to TWRP and delete the folder /data/nvram.“。

Don't understand why Step 12 was needed, to begin with.
