Yes, you can flash Magisk or SuperSU zip with the TWRP recovery if you need root.

The archive is not protected with any password.
If you are using an encrypted phone, you must reset or decrypt it with the key before you can make changes with TWRP in read/write mode

Yes. It depends what recovery version you choose if it's compatible with 8.1
after installing and booting into recovery twrp asks for a password.the pin I use on my phone doesnt work.
You must disable encryption or do a factory reset if you want to make changes in TWRP
