  there are something when u press vol up button + home button + power button called recovery what u have in your device is called stock recovery and it usually being used to flash stock firmware updates but a custom recovery can flash root , gapps , roms , patches ,etc and there are 2 custom recoveries in that moment they are TWRP and CWM u can check out how to install them on youtube
