TWRP, root for UMIDIGI C Note 2. Flash with SP Flash Tool. In the package also find the file build.prop to be replaced by the original one in order to use any launcher.

TWRP was made by jemmini, thanks for his great work.

The file seems to be corrupt. I can´t unpack it. Also, same question; does it apply for Umidigi C2?

    Best regards

The file is good. Simply unpack the file to the desktop. Not work on Umidigi C2, only Note 2

Hi! I don´t have any problems to download and extract it, but… How I can use the "build.prop" to change the launcher? I don´t find that name in the SP Flash Tool or in my rom.

    Thanks for all :)

What do we do with build.prop file. I hate the Umi launcher. I need to use Nova. Plz reply!

Can someone plz compile a stock nougat for this device. Umi OS is terrible.

I used the build prop from this post and my phone refused to boot. I just had a black screen. The way I did it was i navigated to /system folder using estrongs and located the build prop txt file. I renamed it to build.prop.old and moved it to somewhere I could find it if I needed it (good job I did) and I pasted in the file from this post and took the .txt off the end of the name (becos the original didn’t have it) then I rebooted and got the black screen.
So, then I tried volume up and power to get to bootloader but nothing happened other than it just kept booting to the same black screen. (Panic stations!). After about the third try doing this I got to bootloader and chose recovery (twrp). I went to mount and mounted system. Pressed home, advanced and file manager and navigated to /system and located build prop. I deleted it and replaced the original one that I’d previously rename to .old. Rebooted and all was good.
The only reason I chose to use the build prop from this post was to use Nova as my default launcher. So once my phone had booted up I installed titanium backup and I froze Initiator app (Umidigi’s default launcher) and ran Nova, and being the only launcher available became default. So all is now good with that.

If anybody is having issues with Contact sync as I did, simply install Google contacts from Play Store and that will sync them. Not sure if you can then uninstall it but I’ve chosen to keep it and use it as it has a stock android feel.

Also, for Gmail sync, I find installing Inbox by Google enables Gmail sync.

This is a great device, but why they decided to use their own os and ruin it is beyond me. Budget handsets I find always run smoother and have a lot less flaws than vanilla/stock android. I’m looking forward seeing some updated firmwares for this device.

      Hi marcusarelius23

So if you root the phone, freeze Initiator and install Nova it'll keep as default and give a more "Android Stock" experience?

Also other bloatware can be uninstalled/frozen when rooted?

      Hello cryback79,

Yes Nova will become default launcher. And yes you can get rid of some of the bloat if rooted but I found that some can’t, ie 360security. Which was the one app I really wanted to get rid of. But if you go to the umidigi forum C Nite 2 section and find the v1.8 firmware, you’ll find some instructions for getting rid of a lot of bloat. Unfortunately for me after following the instructions my phone still has the same issues, random freezing, poor camera etc. But it did work for getting rid of 360security.
