"u need to lock it again using fastboot."

No idea how to do that , is it bad for me to leave it unlocked like that ?

Will it help or hamper me if I still want to try and root the phone ?

Connect ur device in usb debugging mode.
In command prompt type adb reboot bootlaoder.
Ur device should now boot in fastboot mode.
    Now type fastboot oem lock.
    Make sure to take backup.

Backup tools work best when device is rooted..contacts u can sync with Google. For sms just search sms backup in playstore.. Rest app data there is no perfect way. Ur pics and files copy it to a memory card or pc.. Rest forget about it..

So, is the secondary camera on this phone fake or is it just not supported by the firmware? The "bokeh" effect just applies a radial blur and works even if the secondary camera is covered up.

The second camera is indeed "fake" in terms it is not used / utilized.

From H/W standpoint it looks like it is not fake entirely: there's a 2nd module of some kind, with a corresponding connector (there's a disassembly video available which seems to prove that).

So I'm inclined to think that there's no proper support for this module on a firmware part.

On the other hand, I was not able to get any reasonable explanation of this from Ulefone support: they just avoid explaining the situation with dual camera, which is a bit worrying, as should it have been a truly software issue, why not just admit it and ship a corresponding update with a fix (or promise it at least)?

I'd love to hear some inside information on this.

I have repeatedly asked Ulefone to load the kernel sources, so to create a custom ROM and fix the camera that in Hardware is not fake, only software support is missing.

They send me from operator to operator.
If we all ask the Ulephon with uninterrupted day-to-day sources, maybe we can improve this phone from the HW point of view not bad.

We all ask for the springs. service@ulefone.com
We remind them that they use OpenSource software and must redistribute it by respecting the GNU license

    MorpheusTao,

good point about sources! I will ask them as well.

Their communication through support@ulefone.com is very unsatisfactory: they just stopped answering any of my questions eventually at some point of time. But I will keep trying.

Really nice phone, agreed indeed, just those nasty glitches with camera make so less attractive… :(

Great !, sooner or later publish it.

PS. Note that I have logged ambiguous traffic to Chinese servers by some applications including Launcher, so I suggest blocking all unhelpful apps and disabling the stock launcher and installing a secure one!

Hello, I'm thinking of getting the phone, the only thing that is keeping me hesistant is from what I have seen, it can be laggy, and the camera issue.  I'm wondering if its actually going to get fix.  Ive seen photo examples taken with the phone and in some cases the quality was amazing, others not so much.
And not sure I want to get a phone that is not even using the very hardware it came with. Once I purchase it, not purchasing another phone for LONG time.  Years if it last that long. Can someone do a youtube review, it doesnt need to be perfect, but I would like to compare the phone now with the new firmware and before with the OLD (Aug) firmware. Please and thank you.

The phone is great, the camera sings with fire and bokeh effect, the rest is a great optical sensor.
The problem lies in poor quality software support, developers recycle SDKs transmitted by MediaTek without putting them on top of them.

If you could have access to the Kernel sources, it would take little to fix the criticalities of this phone.

    Dvalin21,

the phone isn't that laggy as you may think. At some accasions it behaves just quite less quick as you would desire, but I haven't ever had a feeling it's laggy. But the camera, yes, there are issues. Mainly, problems with focusing in low-light conditions (and there's no manual focus!!!) and also the unused 2nd camera (fake bokeh). Otherwise, the camera is pretty capable.

I'm running August firmware, but taken into account release notes of later updates I have doubts much has changed so far.

    Dvalin21,

sorry, have no idea about irulu devices. On Ulefone T1, as an option, give it some 1-2 months more to see how things develop.
