Please use 'kinguser''s (included) kingtool to remove applications from auto-starting on phone boot up. Also don't forget to mark 'Don't keep activities' in Developer options.

Google Play store keeps crashing before it fully opens. I have tried with a few different versions of the apk, all do the same.

I wanted to keep this ROM light and hence I removed Google Play and kept 1 Mobile Market. Its lighter than Google Play and as good, if not better.
Exchanges services keeps crashing as well.

Exchange solution: use MailWise instead of stock Email
Would be nice to use Play Store though, is this possible?

Google Play has this habit of crashing sometimes
as it works with Google Play Services, Google services framework, Google account manager and all. Hence I replaced it with 1Mobile which is a very simple application and as goog as GPStore and doesn't take much space.

Sorry, noticed gapps wasn't installed and I downloaded the most recent play store apk.
Downloaded gapps and installed through recovery, all good now.
ROM is nice n lite, not sluggish and seems good on battery.

Sure bro, just download this file and unzip it on Windows PC. Run the file 'CTRv2.4.exe' as administrator and connect your phone to PC in USB debugging mode. Follow on screen instructions and it will install Clockworkmod recovery on your phone. Download this ROM and copy to any folder of your phone SD card. Boot into recovery using 'mobileuncle tools' application (u can get it on the internet). In recovery click on Backup and do a backup of existing ROM. Then in recovery again click install zip and browse to the ROM folder and install it and then reboot. First boot will take a bit longer. Check youtube for videos on this and you will find many. Don't be afraid but be sure to make a backup before installing any ROM. Any issues let me know…
