DESCRIPTION

UPDATE 13-Dec-2014:

I've added other versions of the patch – to resize the primary partition to 2GB, 3GB, 4GB, 5GB or 6GB respectively.

Patch to increase primary partition. It uses the space of "internal emmc card", which is shrinked to accordingly (there're 6GB of internal memory total, if you decide to increase the primary partition to 4GB, the rest of 2GB is dedicated to "internal emmc card").

PREREQUISITIES:

  1. Root
  2. Custom recovery (CWM, TWRP) – the recovery which comes preinstalled on the phone is not capable of flashing ZIPs!

HOW TO:

  1. Do a full backup of all your data (in recovery, recommended is also a backup using flashtool like MTKDroidTools)
  2. Copy the selected patch (.ZIP) to your SDCARD
  3. Reboot to recovery
  4. Apply the ZIP
  5. Do factory reset and reboot the recovery (Do not reboot to the system yet)
  6. Restore your backup (Using the recovery)
  7. Reboot the phone

Note: after the first boot the phone will prompt to format the internal memory, proceed with that.

NOTE: If you select to expand the primary partition to 6GB, there will be still below 100 MB dedicated to the so-called internal emmc card. It is unsafe (and untested too) to have the partition completely deleted, so I decided to shrink it to the tiniest safe size.

IF YOU FIND THE PATCH HELPFUL, PLEASE DONATE TO SUPPORT MY WORK, EVEN 1 EURO COUNTS.. :)  MANY THANKS!

DISCLAIMER: Use it at your own risk and always do a backup.

If you don’t have custom recovery yet, you can easily install it using MTKDroidTools following tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379412

Good to hear that – I'd recommend to set up the phone to keep time/date synced via the GSM network – it's under Settings > Date and Time > Automatic date & time – just to prevent issues like that in future..

I tried to upload the file update.zip in recovery mode. But the program tells me installation aborted! There is another method?

What recovery did you use? Could you send me the log? (In CWM it’s located under Advanced > Report Error – the log will be saved on your Sd-card in the Clockworkmod folder..)

My bad, it works now. I tried to re-install the CWM recovery, and apply again the update.zip, and it worked!

    GREAT!

    You're the man!

    Worked perfectly on my G6.

For clarification.  In the instructions, it says "Do a full backup of all your data", it should be read as "Do a full backup of your system", not the user data. Otherwise, you will be required to reconfigure your phone.

I did not have custom recovery. I tried Mobile Uncle (found the recovery.img file, loaded it but after reboot in recovery, did not see CWM) and ADB (the "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" command was not recognized).  MTKDroidTools worked well and was very easy to use.

I am having a hard time to reboot the phone in recovery mode. Tried  the combination "vol down/power" and it fails most of the time.  It keeps showing the Elephone logo on and off.

Many thanks for your great work.  I will be trying your roms very soon.

Well. First: installation of a custom recovery should be the very first step od everyone.. :)
Secondly: To be most precise, I should have probably written: “Do full nandroid backup in recovery.” The patch itself will not affect the /system partition, but, it will for sure corrupt the /data.
To reboot the phone into recovery: hold volume UP and power. Volume DOWN + power should start the phone in fastboot/hboot mode. Or, use MobileUncle app and its menu entry “Reboot recovery” I’ll also optionally add that entry into the power menu.
I appreciate your feedback, I’ll be hardly working on to make the mods even better. Shortly I’m going to release more versions of the patch – to increase the primary partition to different sizes, just to allow better choice for you.. (As many users would prefer to use the full internal memoáry for the apps etc)

      Cheers,

      honzikd
