Install ROM:
 V2 and up

Download desired zip and copy on sdcard.

You need a modified recovery to install the firmware and updates. If you have it already, proceed to step 3. If you don't have, follow these steps:

1. Download Lenovo drivers, unzip the archive. Turn off the phone and remove battery. Open device manager and connect the phone to PC. Watch for new devices. It will be displayed as МТ65хх Preloader. You need to be quick, because it will dissapear in some second. Click on it with the right button and select update driver. Point the wizard to the driver folder, it will install the correct driver automatically.
If it doesn't work with removed battery you can try to power on the phone and turn on developer options in settings or enter meta mode – hold Volume Down and Power buttons. Then connect the phone to PC again.
2. Download and extract Recovery zip and Flash tools. Run Flash Tools, click on DL DA All With Check Sum, load the scatter file located in Recovery folder, uncheck Preloader and hit Download (F6). Remove battery from phone and connect it to PC. When done, a green circle will appear.
3. Enter recovery mode – hold Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons until you see the logo. Make a backup of your current system first. Install new zip.

Totally forgot i suppose to write my comment in english … Sadly there is no edit option so i will describe my problem in new post.

I had just installed Proton_A820_signed_121114_215813.zip on my A820. First via mobile uncle tools i get new recovery A820_S150_CWM_6.0.3.2_by_I.nfraR.ed, then i made backup and factory reset.

Actually all the time i got flashing yellow logo on screen. I tried to remove batterry and reset phone 3-times. I know it takes a while for new soft but first time it took ~20min. Maybe helpfull will be that on old rom i had only one partition (no internal sdcard, removed by script), it was almost year ago so i don't remember wchich way i did it.

Infared do you got idea what is wrong?

I had just installed Lambda 2.4.1. For now everything is ok, i just had to repartition my internal sd again (bug with no external sd card visible).

I would like to try this GPU overlock with proton because i try to play hearthstone on my phone.

Tried to compile the kernel proton_z, but I meet some problem.

    when I run the command:

    sh build.sh

    I got these messages:

    build.sh: 21: [: unexpected operator
    build.sh: 71: build.sh: source: not found
    build.sh: 73: [: unexpected operator
    build.sh: 86: [: n: unexpected operator
    build.sh: 100: [: unexpected operator
    build.sh: 104: [: n: unexpected operator

    and so on…

I guess it is the hardware problem cause me to stuck half the the process. It's stuck one of the line and the system goes down haha..

open the build.sh file and search for make -j all. Change it to make -j <whatever-number-of-cpu-cores-you-want-to-use> or just change to make

There would be some warnings like these mentioned in your post, but it will compile fine. It's not important, just some things I need to fix ion the build script.

I'm wonder why to compile the kernel release from the official is smooth but proton_z is so laggy?

Using make -j 2 to compile the kernel, it takes me over 1 hr and it's not done yet…

I think I failed to compile the kernel, the last messages are here:

    Is this the usb20 problem?

Yes, I think the musb_hdrc file is corrupted. Delete everything in the repo folder, except .git and resync and try again.

You can also do in terminal ccache –clear.

Using make -j 2 to compile the kernel, it takes me over 1 hr and it's not done yet…

      ———————————————————–

I don't know, it compiles in less than 1 minute on my machine with ccache turned on.

If I make a clean compile (with cleared ccache) it takes maybe 3 minutes. I have to measure exactly, but it is fast.

You're using a VM, right? How many cores have you allocated to the VM and have you enabled virtualization in bios? What cpu do you have?

  5. 04/06/2013

Part of your problem is the VM I think and the RAM allocated to that VM. It eats a lot of memory if I'm compiling at full speed on all 8 cores.

I have FX-9370 running at 5GHz with 2x8GB RAM at 2400MHz and it is not enough. 32GB would be much better, because it fills the 16GB in the middle of the compilation and then starts to swap heavily.

It's my fault that I forgot to set up the VM. After I set quad core cpu and 4 GB memory, it runs smoothly :)

But make -j 2 is required!! Or it will dump some error or become varrrrrrrrry laggy.

I change the toolchain from arm-eabi-4.7 to arm-eabi-4.8 and finally created the zImage.

    What I do next:

Get the boot.img from A820_kernel_proton_z_120714_013412.zip, put it into the mtk-tools-master folder.

    And then run the command:

    ./unpack-MTK.pl boot.img

Get a folder "boot.img-ramdisk" and a .img file "boot.img-kernel.img". Copy the file "zImage" from path "/kernel/arch/arm/boot" into mtk-tools-master folder.

    Then run the command:

    ./repack-MTK.pl -boot zImage boot.img-ramdisk new-boot.img

After that, I open "A820_kernel_proton_z_120714_013412.zip" and replace new boot.img.

Using Auto_sign tool to sign the zip by run the command:

    java -jar signapk.jar testkey.x509.pem testkey.pk8 A820_Proton_z_test.zip A820_jwchen119_Proton_z_test_signed.zip

I got the output named "A820_jwchen119_Proton_z_test_signed.zip" and put it into my SD card.

The flash progress is successful, but I got boot loop :P

      Sounds correct.

You can check with adb what's happening on boot.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:phablet-team/tools && sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb
then you need to run adb as root
sudo adb devices

adb logcat *:E
7. 04/06/2013
    Bulgaria

Or if you have it in your repos already, just install with

    sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb
  8. 05/14/2013

Everything is normal after bootanimation but in the recovery or power off I run command:

    adb logcat > logcat.txt

It show only one line in logcat.txt

"/sbin/sh: exec: line 1: logcat: not found"

    headache :(

    p.s. I'm using win7 to adb

    Mircast works :)

Paired with a bluetooth keyboard/mouse (since it has no OTG), it could be used as a browsing machine.

I don't have a wireless KB/mouse set to test though.
