Install ROM:
 V2 and up

Download desired zip and copy on sdcard.

You need a modified recovery to install the firmware and updates. If you have it already, proceed to step 3. If you don't have, follow these steps:

1. Download Lenovo drivers, unzip the archive. Turn off the phone and remove battery. Open device manager and connect the phone to PC. Watch for new devices. It will be displayed as МТ65хх Preloader. You need to be quick, because it will dissapear in some second. Click on it with the right button and select update driver. Point the wizard to the driver folder, it will install the correct driver automatically.
If it doesn't work with removed battery you can try to power on the phone and turn on developer options in settings or enter meta mode – hold Volume Down and Power buttons. Then connect the phone to PC again.
2. Download and extract Recovery zip and Flash tools. Run Flash Tools, click on DL DA All With Check Sum, load the scatter file located in Recovery folder, uncheck Preloader and hit Download (F6). Remove battery from phone and connect it to PC. When done, a green circle will appear.
3. Enter recovery mode – hold Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons until you see the logo. Make a backup of your current system first. Install new zip.

Hi infrared, you can add the 850 MHz frequency in 3G? here in Latin America operators use it. I read that changing the NVRAM can be made feasible, but desconosco the subject. Greetings.

infrared – best wishes with your family.

Still using your 2.4.1 daily, and it's still great.

Thanks for all your work on this.

The most stable and straightforward to install ROM to A820 ever. Other ROMs crash and/or I get an error while loading android saying that I have to put the original Lenovo battery. My original was gone and I have only an BLI97 2500mAh battery. Only Lambda Rom works, and works like a charm ;) many thx!!!

I appologise to anyone whom I have promised some updates or bugfixing in this rom, but it is long time discontinued.

Working with closed source by reverse-engineering is hard and not everything can be fixed or it will require a lot of time.

I will release soon the stable v1.0 of my KK ROM, but can't offer OTA updade for users of this ROM.

After 1 year and 8 months of heavy use I found my faithful phone closed in my pocket. Battery was good and charged. After some wrestling i managed to start it with some horrific errors, so i went to format and installed the rom from scratch. At about 40% it says "Nand Flash Error". Is it anything i can do to revive it? When i format it gives no error.

Faulty nand flash chip, I guess. You may try full nand format from FlashTools (will lose IMEI, MAC, etc.), but it seems to be a hardware problem. It might be just loose contact on the chip, so maybe you can try the trick with heating up the mem IC with a heatgun. Many GPUs or memory chips on the PC/laptop get a second life this way.

    Hi,

Great job on the ROM – question is… is there any fix for gapps FC contantly popping up?

Hi Infrared, after using this ROM (2.3.4) for years now, and having installed it in 4 different A820, I found a quite nasty, but interesting, bug (but this won't affect anyone who has the capacitive buttons fully working!).

My wife's phone is reaching the end of its life (after having the screen broken and replaced 3 times!) and the capacitive buttons stoped working. SO whilst I was ordering a new phone, I thought she could easily keep using the current one if I added the soft navbar.

Firstly I tried from gravity box, easy and simple, restart and voila, navbar was there, perfect…..however the phone could not make phone calls: com.android, phone stopped working.

I took literally hours to finaly inderstand the nav bar was the problem.

Then I removed the navbar option from GB and the phone worked as usual.

Second try, I changed the buidprop, to add the navbar line. Reboot (bootlop fear….) and voila again, navbar was there, but once again I could not make phone calls.

Third try, I wipe the phone and installed your latest ROM 2.4.1 and noticed exactly the same thing.

It sounds crazy, but we cannot have the standard soft nav bar on the lenovo A820. Any ideas why the phone app does like the soft nav bar?

Thank you very much in advance.

Just a note. I'm aware Infrared should not be offering support for older ROMs, I only asked the above question in case anybody is aware of an easy fix, or to see if anybody was aware at all of this weird bug.

I'm anxiously waiting for the KK version too, but let's firstly hope you and your family are weel!

    Thanks

KK version is available for some time.

Regarding that navbar issue – the framework is modified by Lenovo. The dialer is a custom one, so I guess there's a flaw in that app.

I'd suggest to install a clean AOSP rom, either KK or JB, should be able to use the navbar.

Thanks Infrared, installed kk yesterday and I'm shocked how good it is.

It simply means this will be my last post on this older ROM.

Whole day using the KK one and I could not find (yet) any problem. I rode a boris bike with gps (maps), installed GB and nearly all modules I had before, the wifi is solid (no blue google server issue), mobile data works after whole night with wifi on, browser seems much better faster and stable. All apps recognised the SD card so all apps were pratically untouched after the KK. Phone goes to deep sleep fine and the battery display seems to work well (used to drop from 30% straight to 11%) and no drainning issues so far. 26 hours later with moderate use and 30min gps on, still on 33%.

And yes, the soft nav bar doesnt upset the phone app!

In summary….see you on the KK posts….well done. Amazing job.
