Install ROM:
 V2 and up

Download desired zip and copy on sdcard.

You need a modified recovery to install the firmware and updates. If you have it already, proceed to step 3. If you don't have, follow these steps:

1. Download Lenovo drivers, unzip the archive. Turn off the phone and remove battery. Open device manager and connect the phone to PC. Watch for new devices. It will be displayed as МТ65хх Preloader. You need to be quick, because it will dissapear in some second. Click on it with the right button and select update driver. Point the wizard to the driver folder, it will install the correct driver automatically.
If it doesn't work with removed battery you can try to power on the phone and turn on developer options in settings or enter meta mode – hold Volume Down and Power buttons. Then connect the phone to PC again.
2. Download and extract Recovery zip and Flash tools. Run Flash Tools, click on DL DA All With Check Sum, load the scatter file located in Recovery folder, uncheck Preloader and hit Download (F6). Remove battery from phone and connect it to PC. When done, a green circle will appear.
3. Enter recovery mode – hold Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons until you see the logo. Make a backup of your current system first. Install new zip.

    Hello Infrared,
I was hoping you could help me.
I'm making an flashable cwm rom based on the etotalk mod rom.
I was wondering wich file to edit so i get what you did with you patch..Updates to empty SIM display mechanism. Indicators for unpopulated slots are now hidden.
I also want to edit the settings menu. The etotalk rom is a port from a ZTE rom.
In settings there is a option to called ZTE Hotline and i want to remove it.
I hope you can and want to help me.
When i publish my rom i will surely give you credits.
BTW I think your rom is great thanks so much for it.

Hi and sorry that I can't help you, but it's impossible to describe everything needed in a simple post at needrom site. You might be able to do it yourself, but you have to read a lot to understand key principles in producing a cwm-flashable rom. There are guides on the internet for that. First of all you can unzip the 2.2 rom, but you should learn how to write/edit updater scripts, what folders you need from the original rom. For the unpopulated slots and battery mod you'd need to know how to deodex apps, how to decompile them, then edit smali files, compile back, put correct signature and odex the application. Too much things to decribe in a single post.

I had Etotalk ROM that was developed from ZTE and the worst thing is not having sim tool icon to access network specific functions. I installed ROM from Infrared, it is very stable and even yesterday,I deactivated phone-city addresses from my contacts. I am satisfied with the phone now, the only issue is I cannot use NoLED app, the changes are not saved like it was the case with Galaxy S6102 that I had previously. So I can't get alerts for missed events. Anyody that can help me with that?

    Simmymma,

I also had etotalk installed on both my A820′s. I’ve been experimenting with various roms for 3 weeks. In my opinion Infrared’s work, found here, is the only way to achieve anything close to a full, original English OS on this phone. Stability has not been an issue, usability is the key for me. I’ve not remotely missed etotalk rom.

There was a system update from Lenovo I guess, around 394MB. I thought this was an upgrade to 4.2.2 but I am not sure if is okay to install the way it is. It would undo a lot of customisations already made by your ROM. And by the way, I realised the upgrading could not be done as the system returned error message: "failure to verify signature",… "install aborted". Could you please develop for us this and help us on how to upgrade to the latest version of OS? So far, I am very grateful for your diligence and good work. Thank you! ;)

I haven't tried myself, but I guess update is not possible on a modified ROM. However, if the update succeeds, it will wipe most of the customizations if not all. It will also bring back the factory recovery. The only way for upgrade would be when the author of the ROM updates it. Otherwise, you can install stock S138 and update it to S139 from the phone menu, or install S139 directly. I don't get updates, because I've forbidden OTA updater from accessing the Wi-Fi. Since my touchscreen is broken it will be very hard to enable it and download the update, but I will try.

    Simmymma,

It would help to know what error CWM produced.

Did you try to move from Etotalk to infrared v2.1 straight away?

      Aah, that's cool.

It's in LenovoSystemUI. Search for [HOWTO][MTK6589] Autohide mobile signal icons for empty SIM slots in xda, there's a guide about this.

Hi, I have a problem with two operators here in Brazil, the course takes 3GB signal but does not connect to LIVE and the frequency 850MHz, is to change the frequency on the device?

    Can anyone help me?

    Thank you.

    Simmymma,

I can’t definately state that one method works over another for sure. I can only speak for the route I came for logical reasons. The Etotalk ROM is not based on a Lenovo ROM, rather a ‘similar’ ZTE offering if memory serves correctly. The Infrared ROM is based on pure Lenovo stock. Thus the updates for Infrared also presume a Lenovo base. It doesn’t surprise me that you would encounter a mismatch.

I’d physically flash V1 and start from there. It worked for me and I’ve got two happy campers with nice stable A820′s based on Infrared’s sterling work.
